Where it is used

Zinc flake is also used in zinc-rich anti-corrosion coatings. Because it offers better hiding power, leafing and barrier properties than spherical zinc dust, and a brighter metallic luster, coatings made with it stay in suspension and resist settling, and the film is bright and strongly metallic, with better adhesion to the substrate and between coats, low porosity, low permeability and better corrosion resistance. For the same level of protection it uses less zinc per unit area than a coating based on spherical zinc dust, which is also better for the environment.

Why Welllink zinc flake

  • A full range, made to order: available as dry powder or as a paste, and tailored to your process — alloy ratio, particle size, apparent density, flake thickness and solids content can all be specified.
  • Refined process, broad compatibility: precision milling, classification and passivation coating are integrated in one process, giving an even aspect ratio and a narrow size distribution. After surface modification the powder has stable oil absorption, strong hiding power and excellent suspension and dispersion. Batch-to-batch variation is small, and it suits spray, dip and brush application alike.
  • A dense film that performs: the flake structure overlaps layer upon layer as the film forms, building a labyrinth-like barrier with low porosity, strong adhesion and a full, fine metallic luster.
  • Cleaner, with protection twice over: for the same level of protection, zinc flake is used in markedly smaller amounts than spherical zinc dust, saving zinc and fitting cleaner manufacturing. The staggered, overlapping flakes lengthen the path corrosive media must travel, and together with cathodic protection the two mechanisms reinforce each other, further improving corrosion resistance and film stability.
